“They say all good things in life come to an end.” This is the first sentence in an announcement today on the Kodak blog in a post titled, A Tribute to KODACHROME: A Photography Icon.
It seems the world famous Kodak Kodachrome slide film is being “retired” after 74 years of production. Kodachrome transparency film was the standard film for most pro photographers. Some of the worlds most recognizable pictures were made using this great slide film. It was the film I used during my early years.
In January I made the post Polaroid Abandons Instant Photography reporting the discontinuation of the classic Polaroid instant film. It seems Kodachrome is the next classic to fall due to low sales figures. According to Kodak,
“… photographers have told us and showed us they’ve moved on to newer other Kodak films and/or digital. KODACHROME Film currently represents a fraction of one percent of our film sales.”
