Juror’s Statement for “Ponies Threshing Barley”

“My Juror’s Selection is the image that best exemplifies the glories of black and white digital fine art. The Photograph is ‘Ponies Thrashing Barley’, by Richard Durnan of Ridgway, Colorado. In this image, Durnan has combined his creative and technical skills to generate dynamism rarely seen in an image. ‘Ponies’ conveys a tremendous sense of forward motion created by the crafty positioning of its approaching subjects, dramatic background and foreground effects, and bold palette. Durnan built on the perspective by energizing the sky and barley with just the right amount of play, either in-camera or in post. An outstanding creative and technical success, this image is my runaway favorite. Pun Intended.”
